Viridor sponsors three top awards ceremonies

July 20, 2011

Viridor has sponsored key awards at three recent high profile events. The company sponsored the Retail Recycling Award at the National Recycling Awards held in London on 14 July, the Environmentalist category at the Inspire Wales Awards and the Best Business for Sustainability at the South London Business Awards, both held in June.

The National Recycling Awards, where Viridor had success when it was named as the Recycling and Waste Management Business of the Year in 2010, is arguably the recycling industry’s biggest and most prestigious ceremony. Over 600 guests attended to see the chosen winners receive their awards, with the Viridor-sponsored Retail Recycling Award going to Marks and Spencer.

In Wales, the Viridor-sponsored Environmentalist award went to David Williams, who has dedicated 34 years of his working life to developing renewable energy technologies from their infancy, saving over three million tonnes of CO2 through projects that he helped bring to fruition.

The South London Business Awards programme recognises and promotes local businesses key to the growing economic success of the region, encompassing the twelve London Boroughs south of the River Thames. The Best Business for Sustainability prize, sponsored by Viridor, was awarded to Suzanne James Ltd., a catering company specialising in organic, locally sourced food which achieved “zero waste to landfill” status last year.

Viridor’s External Affairs Manager, Dan Cooke, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to support events such as these, which are so important in their respective fields. The standard of the entries received was inspirational, and reflects the growing nature of recycling as an industry and as a way of life.”
