Viridor Vikings had a successful day on the water at the Taunton Dragon Boat Race at the weekend, coming second overall and winning a silver medal.
The race was in aid of Headway Somerset, a brain injury charity dedicated to helping people lead an independent life.
Viridor staff have so far collected £430, with more donations still due to come in.
The company was one of a number of local businesses which took part in the event to raise money for the charity, fielding a team comprising employees and their friends.
Sustainability, Health and Wellbeing Business Partner Emma Wood said: “The team went from a slow and slightly wobbly first race time of 1 minute 6 seconds, but quickly shaved nine seconds off their second round time.”
Emma said that, despite tough competition, Viridor Vikings earned a place in the final against local food business Grubs Up.
She added: “Viridor’s team worked really hard but, frustratingly, lost by a hundredth of a second as both crews crossed the line in a speedy 55 seconds!
“A fantastic day was had by all, made all the better by a great atmosphere and sunny weather.”
