Viridor’s 2,500 teddy collection helps to give kids a special Christmas

The 2,500 teddies which formed part of the Viridor Mission Christmas collection in and around Manchester, Bury and Altrincham.

A van filled with more than 2,500 teddies was just one of the collections recycling and renewable energy company Viridor carried out over the festive season to help give almost 60,000 children a gift at Christmas.

Viridor Trafford Park depot staff collected from 385 collection points in and around Manchester, Bury and Altrincham as part of the Cash for Kids project, Mission Christmas.

The total value of the toys collected or donated over the campaign came to £3,040,129 which enabled Key103 Radio’s Cash for Kids to give 59,579 local children a gift at Christmas.

Viridor Trafford Park Depot Manager Chris Hanson-Jones said: “We have been working with Key103 Radio and their charity Cash For Kids for seven years now with the Mission Christmas campaign and each year we have seen it grow, with more and more people donating toys – from bicycles to remote control helicopters and everything in between.

“This year we even picked up more than 2,500 teddies from one collection at Manchester Airport that filled our van completely. “The team find it very rewarding. Everyone would agree it is something they look forward to helping with each year.  It is such a great atmosphere and place to work. We swap our usual Viridor uniform to wear Santa hats and Christmas jumpers to make our collections in and we even have festive vehicle livery for our collection vans.”

Chris added: “It never ceases to amaze me the depth of people’s generosity and I find it humbling to be a part of it. We collect from all over Manchester – from schools, offices, police stations, and our own sites at Trafford Park and Higher Swan Lane. We truly are stronger in partnership with the local community.”

Key 103’s Cash for Kids Charity Manager Michelle Williamson said: “We are so thankful to Viridor for their support, we loved working with Scott, Chris and the extended team again this year, and they are instrumental to the success of the campaign – always going the extra mile to help us! We simply couldn’t do it without them!”
