Viridor, West Sussex County Council and Glebe Primary School have used more than 200 plastic bottles to create an eye-catching sculpture aimed at raising awareness about ocean plastic.

Working alongside Jo Norman, Education and Communication Officer at Viridor, the inspiration for the sculpture came from sea anemones and how they looked similar to flowers.

Jo and teachers from the school helped the children turn the plastic bottles collected from West Sussex homes into flowers for the sculpture.

Jo visited the school’s Year 4’s to deliver an educational and fun talk on recycling and single use plastics and helped support the pupils’ Project One World.

Glebe Primary School art teacher Jo Cooper said: “These children are the next generation, it is so important for them to learn now how to look after our world.”

Sam Sygrave, a pupil at Glebe Primary School, said: “I love the way the colours merge together and enjoyed changing the bottles into something beautiful.”

The sculpture is now on display at the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Ford.
